Besides Sonia Sotomayor sworn in as the first Latina Supreme Court Justice, I am excited to share more good news from the States!
The very talented Chey Davis of Saginaw, Michigan, received a brilliant review for her latest poetry publication Collection.
And the extraordinary Rina Risper continues her campaign for City Council after making the August 4th primary in Lansing, Michigan.
Grlz, keep on keepin’ on!
So I’m posting a poem of mine from November 2007 to celebrate this happy occasion and honor these spectacular women:
Truth Tellers
Alliance ..Alliance ..Alliance
Compliance to None
……….loyal truth tellers
who stand with decision
and know souls
………. our own and
………. those beside us
furious fearless fighters
who triumph
regardless of outcome
because we stand solidly
.. u n s w a y e d
because we speak sanely
.. u n s w a y e d
because we scream sweetly
.. u n s w a y e d
sweetly scream
noncompliance to routine
expectations belying conventions
………. placed by usurpers of
………. f r e e d o m
routines of bureaucracy
………. intended to undercut
………. energy and expediency
bureaucratic entities
………. surprised by words
………. unfurled in kind
a reciprocity toward the idiocy
………. to defeat truth tellers
with heel draggin
………. back bittin
………. stone wallin plays
but hey idiots
………..I do it
………. I lay on the line of truth
slicing silence
………. built wall to wall to wall
sweetly scream noncompliance
………..in reverence of Lillith
………. in respect to Alice Paul
remembering Rosa Parks
………. Black and a woman
………. saying No to a White man
Noncompliance
Noncompliance
Noncompliance
whether speaking freely
………. disobeying civility
………. or gathering assembly
Ally ..Ally ..Ally
………. in front of ample asses
………. blithe with intention of nil
forge forward
fiery tongues
and unfurl ferociously
