Many poems came to be written while I was in Peru, and continue to come my way since I arrived Stateside. A selection of the Peru poems are becoming part of my traveling exhibition “Movimiento… De la Cabeza a los Pies” (Movement… From Head to Toe), which debuts in Michigan in July at AA Creative Corridor. Yet “The Garden” (see below) is a brand new poem that wants “out the door” right away!
It feels important to share this “newborn” here-and-now. What is clear in the moment: “The Garden” reflects upon my Peru journey while I also have been reading a book 27 generations in the making — Venerable Dhyani Ywahoo‘s Voices of Our Ancestors: Cherokee Teachings from the Wisdom Fire (1987). I’m very grateful for the radiance of my journey and Voices of Our Ancestors, as I seek to honor ancestral roots in my present-day life and work. Blessings to you!
