Fourth of July Meditation

smoking Lights on a Brooklyn stoop
cutting grass on Tisdale Avenue
climbing stairs of Frederik Lintsstraat
watching Grandma die in hospice

visiting the grave of Sylvia Plath
becoming an optimistic expat
gathering at Weris stones
reflecting now on summers past

grateful for The Light cast
upon the gift of every day
the chance to live graciously
and always the choice to love
